Officers from the Shelton Police Department were dispatched to a Howe Avenue apartment on April 19, where there was a report of an unresponsive man inside the residence.
Upon arrival, officers found Shelton resident Jorge Ospina, 45, performing CPR on his friend, who was later pronounced dead, police said. Investigation at the scene found a note next to the dead man, which stated that “if he happens to die that day, he wishes to leave all of his belongings to his friend, Jorge Ospina.”
According to police, further investigation into the death and the note determined that Ospina wrote the letter in an attempt to inherit all of his friend’s belongings. The investigation and autopsy determined that the man died of natural causes.
Ospina was arrested on Tuesday, May 14 and charged with criminal attempt at larceny, forgery and tampering with physical evidence. Following his arraignment, Ospina was released on a $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Tuesday, May 28 to respond to the charges.
